Highly Portable Steel Barrier System With Water Ballast

Our design has less lateral deflection than similar competitors’ barriers!
The lateral deflection of the MB350 is the lowest of any temporary plastic barriers at just 11 feet! Compared to two competitors, one’s deflection is 15.75 ft. and the other is more than double ours at a whopping 22.63 feet.

Standard colors for temporary water barriers are orange or white with orange kit bars. Other colors are available upon request.

Recommend Use

The MB 350 creates a safer work environment for the workers in the work zone as well as the motorist traveling through the work zones. The MB 350 portable barriers are useful for many purposes due to their size and weight. By definition, a barrier is designed to provide positive protection, containing and redirecting an impacting vehicle.

What Is Required of a Barrier?

In order to be designated a barrier and be certified for use on a job site, a device must pass NCHRP-350 crash test requirements and the manufacturer must be issued a Federal Acceptance Letter (and be able to produce it on request). Barriers are required to prevent an impacting vehicle from penetrating the barrier line, and at the TL3 level, our MB350 had a deflection of just 11 feet. While our barrier is actually tested, most concrete barriers have no test data.

Requirements

To be used as a barrier, the MB 350 must be used with the steel bar kit. The kit provides additional strength and keeps vehicles from penetrating the barrier line. The MB 350 is not certified as a barrier (for use on federal projects) when used without the kit.

The minimum length of need (LON) for NCHRP-350 compliance is 33 interconnected barriers, or 198.5 ft. Each barrier must be ballasted to capacity with an approximate weight of 1666 lbs. Can be set up with a 15 degrees in each direction, if desired.

Anti-Freeze

Freezing of the water inside the barricades will not damage them. The plastic simply expands. They are more difficult to move when frozen, but there will be no lasting damage. However, Cryotech is an environmentally-friendly solution that prevents water ballast in barricades from freezing in cold temperatures. Download the PDF for more info. Visit their website.
